ABOUT ME

I'm Shannon, a fiber and multimedia artist in Bellingham. I apprenticed with oil painter Tom Szewc as a young adult, took a long detour through corporate life after the housing crash, and came back to art because my most enjoyable work happens with other people.

I build collaborative festival art with Tidepool Collective and Paper Whale, including Bethany, a giant felted octopus who's toured Fire & Story, Rising Tides, and APOG. I also hand-bind watercolor and mixed-media sketchbooks and teach needle felting.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Art Parties - mainly needle felting, but I will open to other crafts as time goes on! Smallish groups, low-stakes patient instruction (please ask questions!), silliness, and strangers who leave as friends, or at least feeling a little less alone in the world. No experience needed.

MY VALUES

I show up for my community, supporting queer events, protests, immigrant neighbors, and anyone being erased or treated as less than.

Everyone looking for connection, community, and a safe space is welcome in my classes. If you're here to make someone feel less welcome, this isn't your party.

BETHANY - Stage Art for Non-profit Paper Whale

Bethany is a giant needle and wet felted octopus that Tidepool Collective and Paper Whale commissioned me to build for Fire & Story.

She's been making the festival rounds this year - Fire & Story, Rising Tides, and APOG - where the stage builders (myself included) manipulate her arms to build whatever they're dreaming up. Her tentacles are fully posable and she glows under blacklight, so she's pretty flexible for whatever madness they want to create.

Collaborative festival art is core to my practice as an artist. If you're looking to create something ambitious for an event, let's talk.

FIRE AND STORY - Stage Art for Non-profit Paper Whale

Fire and Story are life-size owls made of paper, wire, and needle felt. Both were part of Song Stage for the winter festival of the same name (Fire & Story) in 2025.

OTHERWORKS

In addition to art work (located on my Instagram and in the Portfolio section), I also create art for bands including t-shirt art and logos, and participate in onstage theatrics!

Bands include Bellingham locals Spider Cult and Kronovale, Seattle based Savsatt, and Chicago based Sioum.
